4ocean

4ocean's mission is to clean the ocean while working to stop the inflow of plastic by changing consumption habits. They are a global ocean cleanup operation with cleanup divisions in Haiti, Bali, Guatemala, and Florida, with plans to expand. Every product purchased funds the removal of one pound of trash from the oceans, rivers, and coastlines. 4ocean was founded on the belief that business can be a force for good and that the actions of individual people, collectively, have the power to change the world!

Shark Allies

Shark Allies is dedicated to the protection and conservation of sharks and rays. Their focus is on taking action, on raising awareness, and guiding initiatives that reduce the destructive overfishing of sharks on a global scale.
Shark Allies is an organization that invites participation and hopes to inspire the public. They thrive on the power and energy that hard working volunteers bring to the cause. "There is no limit to what we can achieve for sharks if we lift the issue out of the shadows and bring it into the light of the public. We couldn’t do what we do without support. It is our task to find the way and shape the strategy, but it is everyone else’s willingness to get involved that will empower the movement."

“Like them or not, the ocean needs sharks, and we need the ocean ”
— Shark Allies Founder Stefanie Brendl

Marine Mammal Care Center

MMCC Los Angeles is a non-profit hospital for seals and sea lions that strand on the 70+ miles of beaches from Malibu to Seal Beach due to illness, injury and malnutrition.  MMCC has provided top-notch care for marine mammals in need since 1992, with the goal of rehabilitating and releasing them back to their ocean home. They also promote the ocean conservation through education, research, and partnerships.  Their supporters value ocean stewardship, wildlife conservation, and sustainability.  MMCC operates under a permit from the National Marine Fisheries Service to implement the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972.
As the only year round marine mammal rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles County, MMCC is one of the busiest in the country, admitting on average over 350 patients per year.  MMCC is located in San Pedro near the Port of Los Angeles, on property owned by Los Angeles Unified School District.

Marine Mammals

Picture

A few months ago, during my freediving certification at Catalina island, we heard of a baby sea lion that had jumped up on a woman’s boat and was suckling on her leg. Of course, I quickly grabbed my camera and jumped on a paddleboard to go find them.

Unfortunately, by the time we got there, the baby sea lion (Emmy) had already been taken by @marineanimalrescue_85 care center because it was too young to survive on its own.

Luckily, the woman who had found it was the amazing @kingaphilipps! We quickly began talking about her incredible aquatic adventures and my dreams of being a marine biologist and underwater photographer.

Along with helping me connect with multiple marine biologists, photographers, and organizations, today, she invited me to join her and @marinemammalcare to release Emmy, the sea lion, back to the ocean!

Thank you Kinga!

Checkout @kingaphilipps and @marinemammalcare for more information about Emmy!💙
